Call Me Crazy
For Fans Of: Haim, Dream Wife, Tegan and Sara, Alabama Shakes, Sports Team
Following the release of 2019's EP Wrong Girl Honey, and 2018’s debut Daughters Of Daughters, Brighton duo Hanni Pidduck and Clara Townsend - aka ARXX - are back with a poignant new offering. Named in the NME Top 100 Essential New Artists for 2020
A step away from the ferocious, riotous anthems we’ve come to know and love, ‘Call Me Crazy’ loses none of the emotion-strewn power of previous releases, whilst showcasing the duo’s more reflective side. Propelled by the rich, soulful drive of Hanni’s vocals, sweeping, twinkling hooks shine through, building to a swirling heartfelt ballad. At the same time both moving and uplifting, it’s an impassioned and necessary listen reflecting on mental health struggles, at a time when this topic is more resonant than ever before. So, prepare to have your heartstrings pulled, and your ears hooked, by this instantly catchy slice of stirring alt-pop.
Of the track, Hanni explains: “It's a happy pop song about the trials and tribulations of living with depression. The chorus is an internal dialogue about getting stuck in your head and forgetting to enjoy life. It's a very personal insight into my experiences with mental health.”
Impossible to pigeon hole into one single genre, whether they’re creating gritty grunge or sparkling pop, ARXX consistently play with the expectation of what they ‘should’ be as women and as artists. Now, having been making music together since 2017, they’ve received acclaim from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and John Kennedy on Radio X, and have played 80+ gigs and festivals across the UK and Europe, including support slots with the likes of Dream Wife, The Hold Steady, Lady Bird, Martha, PINS, Petrol Girls and The Coathangers.
‘Call Me Crazy’ was released 14th October 2020. Their next single "DEEP" will be released on the 12/3/21.
